Event Code of Conduct
And Emergency Procedure

Every member who attends or wishes to attend an Event someday is expected to know and then maintain the Event Member Code of Conduct.

The Event Code of Conduct is designed to ensure a positive and immersive experience for all members who attend Wandering Folk Society events. All participants, whether Players or NPCs, are expected to adhere to these guidelines to create a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment.

1.      Rules and Safety Briefing

§  We will Learn the Rules:  All Participant Members are required to attend the Safety Briefing at the start of each Event and familiarized themselves with all applicable policies, procedures, and rules of the Social Club and event-specific mechanics; Members may also be requested to attend additional safety briefings, familiarize themselves with video or audio about the different guidelines, and take quizzes to assess their knowledge of rules, mechanics, and guidelines. The most basic rules of physical safety we need to remember for ourselves is to stay hydrated, to eat, to know emergency procedures, and to otherwise ask for help if we are lost or confused on anything which could lead to an unsafe situation.

2.      Respectful Immersion, Consent, and Safety are Keys to Fun

§  We will Live in the Realm we have Created!:  We understand there are Games at these Events, that they are Competitive, we will be fair winners and admirable losers, and we will follow the Rules of those Games. We understand that following the rules and mechanics provided lead to a better understanding of how our characters fit in the settings we create and hopefully help us put context into perspective after the game as we get to know each other better as human beings of a Society. We will play and encourage each stay in-character while participating at Events, adhere to out-of-character rules, and take the steps to recognize Player or Character Bleed within ourselves to maintain emotional and mental well-being and safety during immersive events. We will try to communicate using our in-game vernacular when it is safe and fun and otherwise we will familiarize ourselves with real world safety rules.

3.      Possessions

§  We will Look after our Personal Possessions:  Members are responsible for our own belongings and will lock valuable in vehicles whenever possible, as Wandering Folk Society is not liable for lost or stolen property.

Ø  Lost Property: If an item is lost at an Event, there will be a designated Lost and Found at the Event. If the item is not found, we will email thefolks@wanderingfolksociety.org. If an item is not claimed within three months of the Event, we under that it may be donated to a Community Items Trove for community borrowing and use. We can, of course, pick up any found item of ours at any time it is found.

4.      Wildlife and Environmental Respect

§  We Will Respect Nature: We are guests in nature. We will familiarize ourselves with basic safety guidelines in nature. We will keep campsites clean and take care of our campsites. We will avoid leaving food or trash out to prevent attracting wildlife. We will not feed or approach wildlife, even if they appear friendly. We will avoid handling dead or young animals. Respecting Nature means also understanding that being Outdoors can sometimes be dangerous, especially at night with limited lighting, or during weather events. We will encourage and will travel with a buddy, avoid hiking alone, ensure we are wearing weather-appropriate attire, be attentive to our surroundings in natural areas, and ensure we have fed ourselves or have appropriate provisions and supplies while we are out in Nature.

§  We Will Familiarize Ourselves with the Venue.  We will review the website for all pertinent Venue information. For Reckoning LARP, the venue’s website currently is:  https://www.terrapinhillfarm.com/hikingcamping.html.

5.      Fire Safety

§  We will tend to our Fires: Fires are preferred in raised beds and may further be restricted depending on the Venue of each Event. Volunteers may be asked to assist with monitoring fires, but all Members are responsible for ensuring that no flames are left unattended. If we are the last at a campfire, it is ours to put it out with water or a non-flammable liquid.

§  We will take Basic Fire Precautions: All Members should be mindful of fire safety and report unattended flames to event staff immediately. If Members are tasked with some additional fire-involvement spectacle or occurrence, each Member involved will be acquainted with all fire safety standards and have appropriate permissions. We will not have open flames in our tents. If an unattended flame has gotten out of control, the nearest Steward or Warden should be located. Details of what to do in the situation can be found in our Camp Safety information, which will be received during check-in.

6.      Prohibited Real-World Weapons

§  We will not Use Real Weapons!: We go to our Events to simulate Combat, as a game, with foam weapons only. Real weapons, including firearms, are strictly prohibited. Camping tools such as knives and axes may be used only within designated camping areas. Any blade longer ten inches will be stored in a locked vehicle or securely zip tied and put away for the remainder of the event, unless otherwise given permission by a Warden, in which case the owner of the blade takes full responsibility for any mishandling and is expected to properly secure the blade after its intended use is complete.

§  However, we May Buy Real Weapons…: Swords or steel weapons may be sold by vendors but cannot be used or worn at Events.

7.      Zero Tolerance Policy for Harassment

§  We will not Tolerate Harassment, not for Ourselves (we will Report it) and not of ourselves (we will not Engage in it).

8.      Alcohol and Other Substances

§  We will Partake in Vices Responsibly:  We will only drink Alcohol if we are of Legal Age per whichever Governmental Entity governs us. We may bring our own Alcohol; Alcohol Sales may not be permitted in certain states. However, Alcohol may be provided by other folks. People who kindly share their beverage of choice will do their best to make sure everyone being offered is comfortable, able to give consent, and of the appropriate Drinking Age. If a person who is under the Legal Drinking Age or who has over-imbibed is found to have consumed Alcohol contrary to their responsibilities to themselves and our Community, the Responsibility is on the Under-Aged or over-imbiber and although the Providers of Alcohol are asked to not push their Alcohol on folks and ensure consent. All of us who do Partake in Imbibement and Other Vices shall do so responsibly and legally.

Ø  We shall stay Hydrated.

Ø  We shall Eat.

9.      Proving Identity

§  We Must be of the Appropriate Age for Each Event: Our flagship LARP, Reckoning, is currently limited to persons who are eighteen (18) or older.

§  We Will have Our Identity Documents:  Photo ID is required at all Events to prove Membership.

Emergency Procedure

If there is a perceived Emergency or Emergent Incident, including weather and medical occurrences, at the Event, Emergency Protocols will, at their basic level and to be refined and explained at each Event per that Event’s Venue and Environment and made for an Event Agreement, as follows:

§  Find an Emergency Professional, such as an EMT, find a Steward or Warden, or call 911.

1.      If a person is conscious and not in immediate peril, finding an Emergency Professional or, if one cannot be found, a Steward or Warden so they can help make a determination how to proceed.

2.      If a person is unconscious, call 911 immediately, do not leave the person unattended, and find an Emergency Professional, Steward, or Warden. Communication will be handed to them at this point.

§  If someone is being a danger to themselves or others, find an Emergency Professional, Steward, or Warden.

§  Find a safe location, which will be a place where you cannot be found or you otherwise protected. At Events, there will typically be one large building or shelter that you first see.

§  Try to stay calm. Your body and your mind are better able to think and react after taking a moment. Come up with a plan, look for help, and believe that you are capable.

§  Delegate when you need to. Shout at your friend or nearby person, call out their name, and tell them what you need!
